Welcome to the new home of the VOICE PMMail project. This site is currently a (primarily) developers resource, but public areas are being made available as we progress. Thanks for visiting!

About the project

PMMail has been a favorite email client of many OS/2-eCS users for quite some time. As the product appeared to be falling into a state of "maintenance mode" several members of VOICE began to enquire as to the possibility of purchasing the rights to the source code to renew development.

The result of this was that the members of VOICE voted to purchase the source for development. PMMail/2 is free to all VOICE members who were paid-up members as of December 31, 2006. The sale of PMMail/2 to others will involve VOICE membership plus $25. At this point no outside sales are intended. PMMail/2 sales will commence with the GA of version 3.

Beta 4 Available Now

The fourth beta of PMMail for OS/2-eCS users is available from this page (see below). It is being distributed to the general public.

The beta expires 90 days after the installation date. After the time limit has expired, nag screens show up. At startup a dialog opens reminding the user about the beta status. Also every time an email is sent, the same dialog pops up. There is a 5 second delay after acknowledging the notice. This is solely to reduce the number of program versions requiring support. A new beta (or GA release) will be available before the expiration date. The GA release will have no such restrictions.

Please bear in mind that this is a beta; there may be bugs, omissions and/or the possibility of data loss. You must backup your existing mailstore and program dependent files before installation of the beta. The installer has been designed to "copy, then convert" mailer data wherever possible. We have tried to make it so the user can run their existing PMMail installation and the beta concurrently (however, you must select "Leave mail on server" in the setup for this to be possible). For beta versions, the migration tool will automatically make this setting when it migrates (copies) the old Account data This will not be the case when the GA is installed.

Since this is a beta program, and some changes in operation may be required later, it may be necessary to uninstall the beta PMMail before installing the GA version, when that becomes available. This should not cause any problems, even if you decide to use the beta as your regular e-mail program (by turning off the "Leave mail on server" setting). Uninstall will leave the messages and other things alone, so that installing the GA version should simply pick up where you left off (BACKUP is always recommended before doing things like that).

It is not necessary to uninstall earlier betas before installing Beta 4. It is OK to upgrade a Beta 1, 2 or 3 installation to Beta 4.

* The new PMMail mailstore is not backward compatible with version 2.x. *

PMMail has a greater abundance of status indicators, specifically for Spam/NoSpam, Send Pending and Undeleteable. Flag storage required some changes and additional fields to the <folder.bag> file which breaks full compatibility with older versions. Those status indicators are lost when an older version, either os/2 or windows, loads the mailstore.

The address book and filter file formats are unchanged (to date) and have no known incompatibilities.

By downloading and/or installing this software, you agree that VOICE, its Officers, associates, service providers and/or contractors make no warrantee for the software, express or implied, including that of merchantability, and shall not be held liable for any damages, including data loss, incidental or other damages for any reason.

Download the beta (WarpIN format).

Users may report problems using the Bugtracker link on on the left. You will have to request, then acknowledge, an account on the Bugtracker to make a report. Should you have any problems creating your account, please send an email to sysadmin at os2voice.org.

Thank you for your support, and enjoy helping to make the new PMMail a success!
